Green space talk continues

Alice Pickering
Linwood Area Reporter

Linwood supervisors have continued to discuss a plan to preserve green space in the township. The town board met Wednesday night of this week prior to the regular meeting to discuss the plan.

Josh Williams, natural resources planner for Anoka County Conservation District, explained the services a planner could provide for the township at the Oct. 25 meeting.

Ultimately the plans are to help the township preserve its resources and green spaces in the best way for the township. The planning process recognizes the high quality natural resources in an area, and strives to preserve and enhance these areas, and connect them with other high quality areas.

Other items

Most of the supervisors opposed a variance request by Patrick Borowick to locate a septic drain field across the street from his house, but on another piece of property he also owns. The fit for a septic system is tight as it is. There was more that one variance required to make this fit. Supervisors voted 4-1 against granting the variance. The thinking is that the board must look to the long term for what is in the best interest of the township as a whole.

Based on the recommendation of Engineer Craig Jochum, the board authorized pay estimate to the contractor for work completed on Cora Road. Only minor items remain to be completed. The pay estimate is in the amount of $57,532.66.

Supervisors unanimously approved a request for a conforming land split for Cindy Bracht. The request meets township requirements for road frontage.

Other business

In other business, the board

ïAdopted the state policy authorizing the fire chief to dispatch appropriate equipment to emergency situations. This streamlines the decision-making process in the event of an emergency.

ïAccepted bids from Keller Excavating and Danís Landscaping and Snow Removal for the 2005-2006 snowplow season.

ïApproved a conditional use permit for Steven Strandlund to keep up to 10 large animals on his 32-acre plat. The land is zoned R-1.

ïDenied a re-zone and sketch plan for Charlie Mallet, because more road frontage is required for a metes and bounds split. Fees for re-application are to be waived if another application is made within a year.

ïScheduled a meeting for Ryan Lake Drive residents before the board meeting, Tuesday, Dec. 13, for purposes of discussing the Ryan Lake Drive upgrade.

ïThe town board met on Wednesday of this week because of a conflict with the ISD 831 school election on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
