Columbus files for temporary injunction
Columbus Township has filed for a temporary injunction against the city of Forest Lake's petition to file for annexation. The action has been brought in Anoka County District Court. The Columbus Township is disputing Councilman Dick Tschida's vote, citing a conflict of interest since he owns land in the area of Columbus Township that the city is trying to annex. ìForest Lake is trying a process that should be invalid because they had an interested party voting on it and it isnít right,î Columbus Town Board Chairman Mel Mettler said. ìInstead of laying there weíre going to challenge it.î Tschida was the tie-breaking vote in a 3-2 city council decision on Oct. 24 to approve an annexation resolution for the 600 plus acres on the east side of I-35, including the TH-97 interchange north and south of the state highway.
