Nelson chairs transportation session
The federal transportation bill passed in August will pump millions of dollars into Minnesotaís transportation system, according to a presentation to the Minnesota House Transportation Committee Nov. 1st. Rep. Pete Nelson, R-Lindstrom, who chaired the meeting, said Minnesota will benefit from a $482 million increase in state highway apportionments and that another $168 million will be pumped into the stateís transit system. Nelson said rural Minnesota will benefit because a majority of the money is designated to projects in rural communities. ìAs the projects are finalized and construction begins, areas like ours will start to really see the benefit of the investments,î Nelson said. ìThere is $5.7 million in the bill for continuing improvements to Highway 8 through Lindstrom and $480,000 to begin an environmental review on Highway 8 between Forest Lake and Chisago Lakes,î Nelson said. The bill also appropriates money for ongoing plans for the TH-95 bridge over I-35 in North Branch.
