A 19-6 victory over Mounds View in 2000 was the Rangers last homecoming victory going into Friday night. The Rangers hoped to put an end to a homecoming losing streak, but Lakeville South won 33-7.

ìI think that the combination between theyíre (Lakeville South) a pretty good football team and we just didnít play well equated into a pretty tough loss,î Rangers head coach Matt Cleary said.

Lakeville South started the scoring in the first quarter off a seven yard run by Zachary Martens. The point after attempt was good.

The score remained 7-0 for most of the second half then Martens took a pass from Marcus Brumm 43 yards into the end zone. A good extra point attempt gave Lakeville South a 14-0 lead. Shortly before the half Kevin Lundeen caught a four yard pass from Brumm, but a failed extra point attempt left the score 20-0 at the quarter.

After the half Lakeville South continued to add points thanks to a 15 yard touchdown run by Logan Flannery in the third quarter. This time the Lakeville South kicker got the ball through the uprights and the score was 27-0.
Krister Ralles got the Rangers on the board with a three yard run. Muhamad Halavacís extra point attempt was good and the Rangers trailed 27-7, but not for long.

Before the final seconds ticked off the clock Lakeville South added another touchdown courtesy of a T.J. Howard 14 yard touchdown run. The Rangers blocked the extra point attempt and the game ended 33-7 in favor of Lakeville South.

Looking ahead

The Rangers face one of their toughest test of the season when they take on Cretin-Derham Hall at the University of St. Thomas Friday night at 7 p.m.

ìCretin-Derham Hall is a good looking team, but they just lost to White Bear,î Cleary said. ìWe canít be too intimidated by them, but theyíre one of the better teams weíll see. We canít make the mistakes like the ones we made Friday night otherwise things will go worse.î

Cretin-Derham Hall is the newcomer to the Suburban East Conference this season after being placed in the conference by the Minnesota State High School League. Cretin-Derham Hall suffered their first Suburban East Conference loss last week to a White Bear Lake team that beat the Rangers 41-0.

ìThe University of St. Thomas looks like a fun place to play and they (Cretin-Derham Hall) will probably be pretty fired up after losing, so itís a good measuring stick for these young guys to say hereís what a good team looks like.î

The Rangers then take on 10th ranked Hastings Wednesday at home at 7 p.m. to close out the regular season.

ìWeíre really not thinking about Hastings,î Cleary said. ìAs coaches weíll put in the extra time over the weekend to prepare and weíll have a shortened practice week, but weíll adjust to make sure the guys are understanding what theyíll see.î

With two games left on the regular season schedule Alex Boerum leads the Rangers in rushing yards with 244, but last years team leader Trip Schultz is not far behind with 222 yards. Schultz does lead the team in receiving yards with 116.

On the defensive side of the ball Kyle Johnson leads the team in interceptions with two and James Berry, Brett Johnson and Patrick Taylor all have one. Brett Johnson leads the group in interception return yards with an 81 yard return that resulted in a touchdown.
