The magical season continued for the Forest Lake High School girls tennis team this week as they advanced to the section 4AA semifinals with wins over Chisago Lakes and Blaine.

ìItís the first trip to the sectional semifinals,î Rangers head coach Greg Patchin said. ìSome of the girls played passively and it almost cost us. Weíll need to step it up against Centennial or weíre done.î

The Rangers opened section play Friday with a 7-0 whitewash of Chisago Lakes.

All the singles players, junior Paige Patchin, senior Hilary Framke, freshman Quinne Patchin and freshman Lauren Gravelle won their matches in straight sets. Framke and Quinne Patchin refused to give up a point, winning their matches 6-0, 6-0.

The doubles teams of juniors Alexa Nelson and Maddy Raasch, seniors Heather Grundhofer and Anita Heeman and sophomore Kathy Crudo and eighth grader Brianna Odegaard all won in straight sets as well. Crudo and Odegaard also won 6-0, 6-0.

The quarterfinals match was a bit tougher for the Rangers as they faced Blaine Monday afternoon. Paige Patchin and Framke earned the Rangers points in singles play. Patchin won her match 6-1, 7-5, while Framke had to battle and won 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Quinne Patchin won 6-0, 6-2 giving the Rangers some breathing room as they only needed one victory from the doubles teams to win the match.

Crudo and Odegaard won their doubles match 6-0, 6-2 to give the Rangers the one point, 4-3, victory, advancing them to the semifinals and improving their overall record to 15-2 on the season.
