Chamber endorses school levy plan
The board of directors of the Forest Lake Area Chamber of Commerce has voted to endorse ISD 831ís plan to secure more funding with a Nov. 8 excess levy referendum. With eight members present Oct. 13, the board voted 7-1 to endorse the schoolís Levy for Learning. If passed by voters, the new levy will wipe out the existing excess operating levy and replace it with a new levy that will generate some $2 million in additional general fund revenue that is supported in part by local property taxes. In its resolution, the Chamber board recognized the need for strong schools if the community is to continue to grow. ìWe recognize that the Forest Lake Area Schools need to continue to meet state and federal mandates and standards,î the resolution said. ìThe Levy for Learning is very specific in its intention to hire 44 new teachers with the additional money from this levy. The community will clearly be able to measure whether they have done what they have promised to do.î
