6 tons of goods shipped to troops

Project Hope North, Inc., Forest Lake, has announced that it has now shipped six tons of goods to U.S. troops taking part in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The drive, called Soldiers Care Package Program, was launched last December and closed in August. Area schools, churches, senior groups, businesses, individuals and service organizations from throughout the area contributed. Letters to soldiers were also sent. In all, 12,521 pounds of goods packed in 416 boxes were sent, said organizer Christ Bairaktaris. Project Hope North is continuing its assistance to the family of an area serviceman in Iraq whose wife and five children are in need of financial help. The drive has provided the family with $200 a month and a food gift card. Efforts to help the family will continue until April when the tour of duty is scheduled to end. Donations for the Family of Five are welcome at Project Hope North, Inc., P.O. Box 428. Forest Lake, MN 55025.
