With all but two times under 19:00, the Forest Lake High School boys cross country team placed fourth out of 26 teams at the Swain Invitational in Duluth Saturday.

Mounds View won the race with 81 points, followed by Morehead with 83 points, Wayzata with 104 points and Forest Lake with 182 points.

ìTo travel this far and run this well is excellent,î Rangers coach Deno Johnson said. ìWayzata has a huge program with 120 runners and an amazing tradition, so having them finish just ahead of us in such a prestigious race is a huge confidence booster.î

With a beautiful day to run with temperatures in the 70s Zac Clark was the fastest Rangers on the day with a time of 17:41. Ben Fick, who was away from the team for two weeks to train with the national nordic ski team, returned to finish with a time of 17:56, followed by Jamison Hull at 18:06, Ben Brodin at 18:10 and Seamus Glewwe at 18:55 to round out the top five. Mark Sandager had a time of 19:06 and Nick Kelley a time of 19:07.

ìWe can win this race next year,î Johnson said. ìItís just a matter of our four, five, six, seven and eight runners along with the other underclassmen committing themselves and doing the summer mileage training.î

The Rangers next race is today, Thursday, at Blaine at 3 p.m.

ìAs soon as we can get Seamus and Ben Brodin under 18 minutes weíll be super competitive, no matter the competition,î Johnson said.
