A win over the Goliath Mounds View and the Forest Lake High School girls tennis team would have a shot at first place in the Suburban East Conference. The Rangers fell 7-0 to Mounds View, but secured at least a portion of second place with a 7-0 whitewashing of Park (Cottage Grove) last Thursday.

Last Tuesday the Rangers went to Mounds View with the hopes of pulling off the upset, but Mounds View was too powerful, winning all but one match in straight sets. The doubles pair of Alexa Nelson and Maddy Raasch stretched their match to three sets before falling.

ìMounds View had too much racquet and experience,î Rangers head coach Greg Patchin said. ìWe had some close matches but at some spots they were just better.î

The loss to Mounds View was only the Rangers second loss of the season.

Last Thursday the Rangers bounced back and defeated Park (Cottage Grove) 7-0. Paige Patchin, Hilary Framke and Quinne Patchin all won their singles matches in straight sets and Lauren Gravelle won in three sets. The doubles tandems of Nelson and Raasch, Heather Grundhofer and Anita Heeman and Kathy Crudo and Brianna Odegaard all won in straight sets.

The victory put the Rangers conference record at 6-2, giving them at least a share of second place in the SEC.
Monday afternoon the Rangers hosted Blaine for a non-conference match. The Rangers had little trouble defeating Blaine 6-1.

The singles players of Paige and Quinne Patchin, Framke and Gravelle all won their matches in straight sets and the tandems of Grundhofer and Heemann and Crudo and Odegaard won their matches.

ìWe played exceptionally well vs. a good Blaine team,î Greg Patchin said. ìThe girls played like a number two seed in the section and they deserve it. Seniors Grundhofer and Heeman were impressive too.î
