Dan Kieger, Julie Corcoran, Jody Krebs top
vote getters in Forest Lake School Board primary

Dan Kieger, Julie A. Corcoran and Jody Krebs were the top three vote getters in Tuesday's primary election for school board in ISD 831. The election, the first of its kind under a new state law, was necessary to eliminate two of the eight candidates who filed for the three open seats on the board in the general election on Nov. 8. Candidates David Gay, Eric Michael Langness and Michele J. Dewitt also survived the primary. Eliminated on Tuesday were Amy Clauson and Bill Schell.

The vote total in the district's six precincts was as follows: Kieger, 462; Corcoran, 443; Krebs, the one incumbent board member seeking reelection, 391; Gay, 247; Langness, 221; Dewitt, 216; Clauson, 206; and Schell, 98. A total of 851 residents of the school district voted in the election. The district has an estimated 25,000 registered voters, according to district officials this week.

The six candidates now move on to the Nov. 8 general election ballot. Three seats that carry four-year terms will be on the ballot. District residents will also decide the fate on an excess operating levy to support the general fund on Nov. 8.
