When Justin Gehrman, 16, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2004, his life was turned upside-down.

Usually active in sports, particularly baseball and golf, the Forest Lake teen has had to adjust to multiple stays in the hospital, dealing with chemotherapy and handling blood transfusions.

Since his diagnosis, he has faced additional health problems including pneumonia and life-threatening infections.

Through it all though, Gehrmanís grandmother, Ginny, said Justin has held his head high.

ěJustin has taken all the terrible things that he has had to endure through the last few months extremely well,î she noted, ěHe doesnít complain and has stated that he will do whatever he has to do to get better.î

A benefit for Justin

A benefit will be held at Century Junior High this Saturday, Sept. 17 to help cover his familyís medical and personal expenses.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include a silent auction, carnival games, bingo, raffle, gift certificate bucket, face painting, craft and bake sales, rummage sale, popcorn stand and balloons, as well as a variety of food.

A fund has also been established. Donations can be submitted to the ěJustin Gehrman Fundî through US Bank at 320 W. Broadway Ave. in Forest Lake.
