The 2006 proposed operating levy was approved by the Forest Lake City Council at its Monday meeting in the amount of $5,436,743. That total is for general revenue, debt service total and the Economic Development Authority budget (EDA.) The 2005 tax levy was $4,904,536. The council had to adopt a maximum proposed operating levy by Sept. 15. Though the local taxable value of properties has increased from $15,284,137 in 2005 to the proposed value of $17,068,124 for 2006, the local tax rate marks a .5 percent decrease. In connection with the levy, the council also approved the following meeting dates for the following Truth in Taxation Hearings: Initial hearing (Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at City Hall); Continuation hearing (Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. at City Hall) and Subsequent hearing (Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. at the regular scheduled City Council meeting.)
