They may have gone 0-3 this week and been outscored 22-0, but the Forest Lake High School girls soccer team sees the positives in what they did right this week.

ìWeíre a young team so I canít expect wins against these tough teams,î Rangers head coach Jenny Hollaren said. ìI do have confidence in my players and itís a learning experience for all of us, especially for the girls who are playing their first year varsity.î

The Rangers started the week with a 11-0 loss to powerhouse Woodbury last Tuesday followed by a 5-0 loss to Park (Cottage Grove) Saturday and a 6-0 loss to Cretin-Derham Hall Monday.

Despite the losses, Hollaren sees good things happening. In goal the Rangers have a new goalie in Kayla Raarup who is getting some ìon the job trainingî and improving with each game.

ìSheís got confidence in herself and she will continue to get better as the season goes on,î Hollaren said. ìShe had a very strong second half against Cretin-Derham Hall too.î

Defensively the Rangers arenít playing all that bad Hollaren feels, they just need to work on their midfield defense.
ìI have to remind the girls that our record (4-4) isnít that bad right now and itís just a hard point in the schedule,î Hollaren said.

The Rangers next game is today, Thursday, at Mounds View at 7 p.m.

ìOur goal this week is to score,î Hollaren said. ìIíd like to work on our attack and start putting some goals in the net and not worry about how many goals we let in. We have to start scoring and keep that strong attitude weíve had and play hard to the final whistle.î
