Volleyball team takes 3rd at Coon Rapids tourney

The Forest Lake High School volleyball team is off to a good start this season, especially after taking third at the Coon Rapids Tournament over the weekend.
The Rangers opened the tournament with a 25-13, 25-16 victory over Richfield, followed by a 25-17, 27-25 victory over Eagan.
In the quarterfinals the Rangers lost to Hutchinson 20-25, 14-25, but bounced back to beat Duluth East 18-25, 25-16, 15-6 to take third place.
Kill leaders on the weekend were Megan Becker who had 25 kills, Pamela Nora who had 24, and Courtney Trenti added 18 to lead our hitters. Becker had a .579 kill efficiency and Nora had a .556.
Nora led the Rangers with nine blocks in the tournament and Becker had five. Angie McKinnon served at 97-percent and Chelsie Sobieck 94-percent.
Megan McKenzie had 27 points on serves with seven aces to lead the team, McKinnon had 22. McKenzie also had 74 setting assists.
McKenzie Gemeiner added 36 digs along with Nicole Tetraultís 21 to lead the Rangers on defense.
In one of their last tune up matches before the Suburban East Conference schedule begins the Rangers lost to Anoka Monday 25-21, 20-25, 23-25, 21-25.
The Rangers next game is Saturday when they take on Cambridge-Isanti at 2:30 p.m. at Cambridge-Isanti.
