Area fire departments receive funding
Congressman James L. Oberstar has announced that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded funding to two area fire departments for fire operations and firefighter safety. Almelund Fire and Rescue has been awarded $162,706, and the North Branch Fire Department will receive $106,650. ìAs fire and rescue squads from across the nation continue to help residents in the Gulf Coast region, we are reminded of how selfless and courageous our first responders are,î Oberstar said. ìThe men and women of both volunteer and career fire departments confront new challenges every day. This funding will provide firefighters in Minnesota the right tools to be able to do their jobs safely and more efficiently.î Almelund will purchase 20 self-contained breathing apparatus along with 32 sets of fire fighting gear. North Branch will use the funding to purchase self-contained breathing apparatus.
