Going in to this past weekís games the Forest Lake High School girls soccer team had outscored their opponents 16-0, but that changed this week.
The Rangers opened their Suburban East Conference last Tuesday when they hosted Hastings. The game was scoreless at the half, but Anna Johnson put the Rangers ahead as she broke free from the Hastings defense and went in all alone on the goalkeeper. Johnson chipped the ball to the lower left corner of the net, just beating the keeper for a goal.
The Rangers lead was short lived as Hastings came back to tie the game at 1-1. Overtime wasnít enough time for one of the teams to manufacture another goal as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
ìHastings played very physical and it was a good introduction to the conference,î Rangers head coach Jenny Hollaren said. ìI wish we could have walked away with a win, but Hastingsí goal was perfectly placed.î
After walking away from last Tuesdayís game with a tie the Rangers travelled to White Bear Lake last Thursday where they were shutout 6-0.
ìWe always know White Bear Lake will be tough so we look to compete with them and try to shut them out,î Hollaren said. ìI donít give false hopes to the girls because their (White Bear Lakeís) program is elite. We only allowed one goal in the second half so thatís a huge accomplishment as we stuck with them and didnít give up.î
The Rangers next game is Saturday when they host Park (Cottage Grove) at 11 a.m.
