Joe Mitchell, a Forest Lake High School senior from Scandia, was honored last week by the ISD 831 Board of Education for his nomination as a National Merit finalist. Mitchell is one of 15,000 students in all of the United States to earn the honor. He was the guest at a reception prior to the school board meeting Thursday, April 6. Mitchell thanked the school system and his family for their contributions to his success. He said the school was filled with success stories. ìIím not the only one doing good things in Forest Lake,î the student said, referring to his classmate and friend Dustin Kendrick who could not attend the reception because he was in Boston preparing for his future studies at MIT. Mitchell has been accepted to the University of Minnesota Honors Program this fall.
