East Grand Forks man is choice for top job in Wyoming

Craig J. Mattson is the choice for city administrator for the city of Wyoming following city council deliberations last Saturday.
According to Mayor Sheldon Anderson, Mattson has accepted the position ìpending a background check and coming to terms on a contract.î
Mattson has a M.S. in Public Administration. He was city administrator in Oakdale from 1980-1988. He held a similar position in Grand Rapids from 1989 to 2001.
Since 2001 he has been city administrator in East Grand Forks.
Mattson has experience with tax increment financing and tax abatement programs in all three cities where he has served and was described as a ìstrong candidateî by Nick Dragisich, Springsted, Inc.
Of importance to the city and township, he has participated in annexation agreements at least three times.
He has experience in comprehensive planning, joint powers agreements, labor relations, and business retention programs. He helped secure a $1.2 million grant to help build a civic center.
In his present job he supervises 11 workers, including eight department heads. He has employees learn about other departments.
References indicated he works well with department heads. According to other comments Mattson is a ìgood communicator.î
Information about candidates was first presented to the council on March 28.
Members of the interview committee included Mayor Anderson, CM Tom LaBarre, Blake Tiedeman, Joe Zerwas, and Township Supervisors Elmore and Swenson.
Other finalists for the job were:
ïDavid D. Carlstrom, currently city administrator for Chisholm;
ïEdward M. Treska, currently city administrator for Grand Rapids, MN; and
ïLynda J. Woulfe, currently city administrator for Pine City.
