There was a changing of the guard in the off season for the Forest Lake High School girls gold team as coach Bill Loushine stepped down and Joel Hall took aver.
Hall has some familiarity with the program as he worked under Loushine last year as an assistant, working with young golfers in the developmental program.
Last yearís team only graduated one golfer, Sarah Berger, leaving plenty of experienced golfers for Hall to work with in his first season as head coach.
ìWeíre looking young and enthusiastic,î Hall said.
Ninth grader Betsy Kelly and senior Ashley Weeda will be the teamís top golfers.
ìAshley has looked solid in the first couple of rounds,î Hall said.
Weeda and junior Nicole Tetrault will lead the team as captains.
ìNicole does OK on the course, but sheís just a class act and we hope that rubs off on the other girls,î Hall said.
A young golfer who will get a chance to contribute on the varsity level is ninth grader Mallorey Messin. She played some varsity last year.
ìSheís a real smart golfer and she knows the ins and outs of the game,î Hall said.
Emily Wislicenus is another varsity golfer whoís back. Eighth grader Laurel Pelton and sophomore Johnson should contribute at varsity meets.
ìNumbers wise we have a lot of girls out,î Hall said. ìWeíll field two teams, a varsity and JV team, and the rest of the girls will work with the developmental program.î
In all the Rangers have 23 girls out for golf this season.
Competition
ìBeing my first year, the only team I know thatís always good is Woodbury,î Hall said.
In the section, Elk River and Grand Rapids are the teams Hall expects to be strong.
The Rangers next meet is at 3 p.m. Monday at Roseville.
