Greg Ochs is new FL councilman

Greg Ochs is the choice to fill the open seat on Forest Lake City Council for the balance of 2006.

Ochs was appointed to the seat by Mayor Terry Smith Monday following interviews with the 11 city residents who applied for the seat held by Dick Tschida until his resignation on Feb. 15.

The decision came at a special council meeting.

Ochs, former mayor Ray Daninger and Community Center Task Force Chair Alan Bakke were the three finalists selected following interviews.

When a motion by Council woman Judy Bull to appoint Daninger to the seat was defeated, Smith utilized his city statutory authority to appoint Ochs, City Administrator Chip Robinson said on Tuesday.

Ochs, who ran and lost for a council seat in 2004, will take office for the Monday, April 24 council meeting.

The Tschida seat, along with the current council seats held by Rick Ashbach and Susan Young, and mayorís seat, will all be on the Nov. 7 city ballot.

The election for the Tschida seat will be for the remaining two years in that term while the other two council elections will be for four years. The mayorís term is a two-year position.
