The Washington County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, April 11 approved the use of the countyís gravel pit in May Township to supply material used in the construction of CR-8/14 in Hugo. Under an agreement with the contractor, Arnt Construction, up to 325,000 cubic yards of granular material from the pit can be used for the project. Washington County Transportation Manager Sandy Cullen said the use of the pit could save the county about $240,500 in construction costs. The contractor will also pay 7 cents per cubic yard of gravel removed to May Township in recognition of the increased traffic, noise and stress on roads around the gravel pit. The Hugo road project is slated for completion this fall.
