The filing period for the soon-to-be ěCity of Columbusî got underway on Tuesday, Aug. 15, and people wasted little time in showing their intentions.

Columbus Town Board Chairman Mel Mettler will run for mayor during the special election that will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 12, because he feels there is a lot of unfinished business.

ěBasically, someday Iím going to get out of politics, but this just isnít the right time right now,î he said.

The early candidates who filed for city council member were Renae Fry, Dennis Peterson and Myron Organ.

The filing process for the special election will continue until Tuesday, Aug. 29. Affidavits can be picked up at town hall, and there is a $2 filing fee.

Those persons selected from this election will serve at-large until January 1, 2007.

The filing period for the municipal election will begin Aug. 29.
