Columbus campaign signs vanish

Itís just too much to be an act of juvenile mischief or a casual prank. Thatís what members of the Red, White and Blue Team are saying in Columbus this week after reporting that 63 campaign signs have turned up missing. The signs, valued at $5 each, support the Columbus City election slate of Mel Mettler for mayor and Renae Fry, Mark Walsh, Dennis Peterson and Myron Organ for council in the Sept. 12 election. According to campaign members, many homeowners have reported all five individual signs for each of the candidates stolen during the past two weeks of the campaign. Any theft over $500 in value could result in a felony theft charge. The thefts have been reported to the Anoka County Sheriffís Office and the matter is being investigated.
