The Washington County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 22 approved funding which will allow design to begin on the first phase of the development of a new Washington County park. Commissioners approved the use of $250,000 by parks staff to seek design services in developing improvements for Big Marine Park Reserve. Big Marine Park Reserve is located in north central Washington County on Big Marine Lake near the intersections of CR-15 and CR-4. Plans call for many new amenities to be constructed in time for a Memorial Day 2008 opening. These include a swim area with 500-foot swimming beach, two boat launch ramps with 40 trailer parking stalls, one play structure, a picnic area, new access road and 1.5 miles of paved trails. A park contact station is also planned.
