Vandeveer announces Senate bid
Rep. Ray Vandeveer, R-Forest Lake, announced recently he has filed for the state Senate District 52 seat being vacated by Sen. Michele Bachmann. Congressman Mark Kennedyís decision to run for the United States Senate has left the Sixth District seat open and Bachmann is running for that position.Vandeveer has represented House District 52A for almost nine years. The area includes Forest Lake, Centerville, Columbus, Linwood, Scandia, and parts of Hugo and Lino Lakes. Prior to the 2002 redistricting, Vandeveer represented May, Marine on St. Croix and most of Hugo in the House of Representatives. ěHaving represented much of the larger Senate District 52, I am familiar with many of the concerns of people in our area. The open Senate seat presents an opportunity to have more impact on the issues important to the people of our district, and the state as a whole,î Vandeveer said. Vandeveer promised to ěcontinue to work hard fighting for better schools and roads, lower taxes and safe streets.î
