Seefeldt elected Scandia's first mayor;
Peterson, Crum, Harnetty, Yehle win council seats
In the first ever city council election in Scandia on Tuesday, Dennis Seefeldt was elected mayor while the four council seats were won by Dolores Peterson, Pete Crum, Michael Harnetty and Donnette Yehle. A total of 1037 ballots were cast in the first city election that saw five candidates for mayor and 20 for the council seats.
Seefeldt, currently the town board chairman,won the two-year mayoral term with 469 votes. Ross Brunfelt was second in the race with 317 votes. Other vote totals were: Kim Bakken, 156; Brandon Morris, 48; and Joseph Beitler, 35.
In the race for council, the top two voter getters were former Town Clerk Dolores Peterson with 428 votes and Pete Crum, a county sheriff candidate this fall, with 404. Both win four-year terms. Winning two-year terms are current Supervisor Michael Harnetty with 372 votes and Donnette Yehle with 363 votes. Current Supervisor Nancy Madden was fifth in the race with 356 votes but missed the cut.
Other vote totals among council candidates are: Deb Campobasso, 324; John Lindell, 243; Gary Hogle, 226; Kraig Anderson, 129; Daniel Skupien, 126; Wyman Detzler, 118; Michael White, 113; Charles Amann, 99; Jerry Anderson, 86; Don Baber, 74; Connie Amos, 72; Jim Schreyer, 68; Jim Hillman, 47; and Louie DiBerardin, 28.
The results won't become official until the town board meets at 7 p.m. on Wednesday to certify the results. The first Scandia City Council will take office on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007.
