I-35 crash north of Wyoming claims life

A Wisconsin man was killed Sunday morning in a two-vehicle collision on I-35 one mile north of Wyoming.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Matthew J. Hauglid, 22, of New Richmond, was killed when his 2001 Hyundai Sante Fe rear ended a flat bed tow truck parked on the left shoulder of northbound I-35.

The crash was reported at 10:12 a.m. on Sunday at mile post 136 in Wyoming Township.

According to police reports the flat bed tow truck, a 2005 Ford F650 operated by ATR of Wyoming, was assisting a vehicle on I-35 when the crash happened. The tow truck, driven by Kenneth W. Rutford, 26, of Hugo, was unoccupied when it was struck by Hauglidís vehicle.

There was report of injuries to Rutford.

The crash forced the northbound lanes of the freeway to be closed for nearly three hours. Traffic was diverted east on CR-22 in Wyoming to CR-30 and back north to Stacy and I-35 northbound.

The crash remains under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.
