Almost a year in the making, local Forest Lake resident Sami Grimes will finally release her debut CD Sam Grimes on Friday, Dec. 22 at the Acadia in Minneapolis.

ìFollowing this CD to completion has been a unique experience,î Grimes said. ìAll the hard work and dedication from everyone who was involved truly made it so much fun to do.î

The CD, which was recorded at BiManic Studios in North Branch, features all of Grimes many talents of singing and composing music.

ìEach of the five songs were written by me, and all of the music behind them were written by me as well,î Grimes said. ìThe band that appeared on the CD were members of Red Veda, a local band out of Minneapolis that used to appear live with me as well.î

The CD is actually considered an EP. An EP is what artists use as demo for people to sample their music. Grimes describes the type of music she plays as a ìblend of alternative, acoustic pop/rock.î

ìThink of Cities 97 or Drive 105 radio stations,î Grimes says.

The CD release party is set from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Acadia, located at 931 Nicollet Ave. Minneapolis.

Opening for Grimes, beginning at 7 p.m., is Matthew Santos, at 8 p.m. is a band called Montreal, and 9 p.m. a band called Epic Hero will be playing.

Sam Grimes will hit the stage at 10 p.m. The cover charge is $5 and it is an all-ages show.

Although Grimes seems to be adjusting well to her new found fame, it has taken a while to get used to.

ìThe most interesting thing now is the amount of attention I am getting that I am not used to,î Grimes said. ìIím so accustomed to having shows here [Forest Lake] and there that are mildly promoted with minimal attention from anyone. Now, Iíve got media like the Rift Magazine and The Onion asking to interview me on ëmy successí and it just seems so foreign and yet uncontrollably exciting at the same time.î

Grimes stated that the CD release party will kick off a ìtwo month long promotional bingeî that will ìtarget local radio stations and local press.î On Wednesday, Jan. 3 Sam Grimes will be playing at the Fine Line in Minneapolis at 8 p.m. Tickets are available by request by contacting Grimesí management at samgrimesmanagement@yahoo.com.
