Benefit to help Scandia girl battle cancer
On Friday, Dec. 8, there will be a community-wide celebration to show support for cancer-victim Jenna Lynn and raise money to help defray some of the large medical expenses the Lynn family is facing.
The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Scandia Community Center at 14727 209th Street in Scandia.
It will include a comfort-food dinner available eat in or take out. Tickets are $7 adults, $5 children 16 and under, and are available at the door.
There will also be entertainment by local musicians, a silent auction, and a raffle, including a flat-screen TV with DVD player, a 2-night getaway to Lutsen, an iPod package, a Stillwater B&B spa weekend, and a laptop computer. Raffle tickets are available at local businesses and at the event.
At the age of 16, Jenna Lynn, daughter of Jan and Jeff Lynn of Scandia (owners of Crabtreeís Garden Gate), is facing her second battle with cancer.
When she was just 12 years old and attending Scandia Elementary School, Jenna was diagnosed with Ewingís Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. She fought a tough battle, undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments and surgery, and came out a survivor.
Unfortunately, this past summer her family found out the cancer had reappeared, this time in her lung, and Jenna is once again in a battle for her young life. She is facing another round of 12 chemotherapy treatments, radiation, and surgery to remove the tumors and make the lung nonfunctional.
Thanks to the generosity of many local businesses, all proceeds from this event will go to the Lynn family.
All donations are tax deductible. Checks can be made payable to Jenna Lynn Fund and sent to Security State Bank of Marine, PO Box 56, Scandia, MN 55073-0056.
