Vandeveer has ideas for surplus use

Rep. Ray Vandeveer, R-Forest Lake, has two ideas for how to use a state budget surplus: Spend it on roads and give it back to the taxpayers who helped pay it. Vandeveer, who gives up his House seat next month after being elected to the Senate from District 52, last week called for $1 billion of the projected $2.2 billion state surplus to be dedicated to road improvements. The balance should be used for tax rebates or permanent tax cuts, he added. ěThis surplus presents a tremendous opportunity to make a much needed investment in Minnesotaís roads,î Vandeveer said.
