Trout stream protection plan envisioned
Plans have been set for steps to protect trout streams in Washington County. The Washington County Board of Commissioners last week authorized the Public Health and Environment Department to join forces with local, state and national resources in an effort to obtain funding to help manage trout streams in northern Washington County. The area contains numerous streams, wetlands and plant communities which are rare to the state and depend upon supplies of clean water. The partners will apply to the Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources for up to $604,000. If approved, $550,000 of that money would go toward developing comprehensive plans evaluating trout streams in the north end of the county, their threats and ways to protect them.
