Approximately 330 people packed into the American Legion Post 225 on Saturday night for two shows to see Sami Grimes and Carly McMenoman perform.
The Forest Lake natives partnered in a music and comedic performance to showcase each others talents.
The night started with Sami Grimes and her bass guitarist Dave, playing a set.
Grimesí soft, almost folk-like music featured songs called ìMinnesota Love,î ìMadî and ìFalling into You.î
McMenoman, 18, took the stage with jokes about sex, drinking, family, drugs, vacuum sales, retail work and working at her parents bar in northern Minnesota.
McMenoman, who is in the Top 25 Comedians of Minneapolis, had the audience laughing immediately with jokes about her family who were in the audience.
ìYou guys [the audience] should really stick around to see the segment after the show,î McMenoman said, ìthat is going to be entertaining.î
The two women, who knew each other since junior high school at Forest Lake, have had success playing in clubs around Minneapolis and St. Paul.
ìI think the show was a great success,î Grimes said. ìThereís such a different feel to playing when you are in front of an audience who have a connection with you. Saturday night had an ambience all its own.î
Grimes plans to release a CD shortly after March. To download Grimesí music or purchase merchandise visit www.myspace.com/samgrimes.
