Wins over White Bear Lake and Park (Cottage Grove) this week got the Forest Lake High School boys basketball team back to .500 in the Suburban East Conference, and improved their overall record to 11-6.
The Rangers started the week of play with a 58-53 win over SEC and section 4AAAA rival White Bear Lake. The Rangers had a six point lead at the half as they led 28-22, a lead that was important since White Bear Lake outscored the Rangers 31-30 in the second half.
ìWeíd get ahead, then they (White Bear Lake) would catch up,î Rangers head coach Chuck Gunderson said. ìIt was a slow paced game and I think that was because both teams were playing good defense.î
Nate Robertson and Aaron Jacobs led the Rangers with 12 points apiece. Matt Hansmann and Josh Williams each had nine points apiece, and Robert Gavanda had six.
ìAaron (Jacobs) really played well and he was able to play a little bit more in the game,î Gunderson said. ìHe had about five blocked shots too so he played a very nice all around game.î
Saturday the Rangers looked like they were in trouble at the half as they trailed Park (Cottage Grove) 20-11. A strong second half allowed the Rangers to come out victorious 49-41.
ìPark (Cottage Grove) had a good inside game and a good parameter game, but in the second half our shots started falling and we started shooting at a good percentage,î Gunderson said.
Robertson again shared the team lead for points, this time with Corey Kuefler as both players had 12 points in the game. Josh Williams had 11 points.
ìWe were able to get spurts of scoring and hold off their spurts,î Gunderson said. ìBoth wins were good wins for us on the road.î
The Rangers next game is at 7:30 p.m. today, Thursday, when they host Woodbury.
