According to Forest Lake High School gymnastics coach Nancy Elias the team has yet to hit their peak, yet they defeated Mounds View this week and performed well at the Cambridge-Isanti All-Around.

The Rangers started the week with a 142.65-132.675 victory over Suburban East Conference rival Mounds View.

ìNicole Paulson dominated the meet with four first place finishes, and she still didnít hit the bar routine I know she can do,î Elias said.

Paulson took first place in the vault with a 9.525, first in the bars with a 8.8, first in the beam with a 9.525, first on the floor with a 9.5, giving her first in the all-around with a 37.35.

Other strong finishers for the Rangers included Taylor Brett placing second on the vault with a 9.0 and second on the bars with an 8.7, and Stephanie Sampair took second on the beam with a score of 9.2. Tasha Tyler took third in the vault with an 8.95, Sampair third on the bars with an 8.65 and Brett on the floor with a 9.0.

C-I all-around

The Rangers participated in the Cambridge-Isanti all-around meet Saturday. The meet is scored differently than others in that no team scores are kept, only individual scores. All gymnasts compete in the all-around competition as well.

ìThis is always a fun meet,î Elias said. ìWe had a pretty good meet considering a few girls were sick and most were tired and sore.î

Paulsonís 9.3 on the beam, 9.4 on the floor, 9.6 on the vault and 9.0 on the bars gave her a fourth place, 37.30 all-around score.

ìShe had an excellent meet until her very last skill on the last event,î Elias said. ìOn her double back somersault dismount on the bars, she landed it, but then fell. This took at least .6 or .7 off her score.î

Brett also scored high, taking 11th in the all-around with a score of 35.65. Brett scored 8.1 on the beam, 8.9 on the floor, 9.1 on the vault and 9.55 on the bars.

ìShe started off on the beam with a fall, but fortunately did not let it ruin her meet,î Elias said. ìShe progressively got higher scores and had a personal best all-around score.î

The Rangers next event is at 6:30 p.m. today, Thursday, when they honor the teamís seniors as they take on Hastings.
