Stillwater downs Rangers swim team

The Forest Lake High School boys swimming and diving team traveled to Stillwater last Thursday to take on seventh ranked Stillwater. Stillwater showed their strength in defeating the Rangers 103-78, giving the Rangers a 5-3 record in dual meet competition, and 3-3 in Suburban East Conference dual meet competition.

The Rangers managed only four first place finishes and a similar number of second and third place finishes in the twelve events. The Rangers were lead by senior Sam Gort who took first place in the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.35), the 500 yard freestyle (5:06.48), and was part of the first place 400 yard freestyle relay team which included sophomore John Goossens, sophomore Elijah Miller and junior Mark Sandager (3:31.82).

The only other first place came from senior Dillon Hudalla in diving with a score of 265.10.

Goossens took second in the 50 yard freestyle (24.11) and the 100 yard freestyle (53.88), Sandager took second in the 100 yard backstroke (59.67), and the 200 yard freestyle relay team of freshman Mike Bahr, Miller, Sandager and Gort obtained the other second place finish in a time of 1:38.29.

The Rangers third place finishes came from freshman Jeff Isaacson in diving (165.50), Miller in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.69), the 200 yard medley relay team of junior John Gavanda, junior Tyler Sperry, junior Matt Elden and Goossens (1:54.61), and the 400 yard freestyle relay team of Gavanda, sophomore Peter Sandager, Bahr and Sperry (3:55.65).

The Rangers completed their scoring with fourth place finishes from Miller in the 200 yard individual medley (2:14.17), Gavanda in the 50 yard freestyle (25.79), Mark Sandager in the 100 yard butterfly (59.80) and Peter Sandager in the 500 yard freestyle (5:31.56).

The Rangers complete their dual meet season when they host Woodbury at 6 p.m. tonight, Thursday, at the Southwest Junior High pool.
