Going into the week the Forest Lake High School boys basketball team only had two losses, but losses to Woodbury and Cretin-Derham Hall this week doubled that total to four.
The Rangers started the week with a 65-39 loss to a strong Woodbury team. Woodbury out scored the Rangers 35-14 in the first half, but the Rangers came out stronger in the second half but were still out scored 30-25.
ìWoodbury was a good outside shooting team,î Rangers head coach Chuck Gunderson said. ìThat was the difference in our game. In every other category we were even.î
The Rangers struggled in the game against both Woodbury and Cretin-Derham Hall as they shot around 30 percent in both games.
In the loss to Woodbury senior Nate Robertson led the Rangers in scoring with 12 points, followed by junior Corey Kuefler who had seven points.
ìWe have to start shooting for consistency,î Gunderson said. ìWe canít shoot for just the sense of shooting, we have to become a more consistent basketball team. Defensively weíre playing well, but we can not continue to shoot around 30 percent.î
Saturday the Rangers fell 58-45 to Cretin-Derham Hall, but it is a game that Gunderson is sure to remember for some time to come.
ìWe were six for six on free throws and they (Cretin-Derham Hall) were 10 for 10,î Gunderson said. ìI donít think Iíve every been part of a game where both teams were 100 percent from the free throw line.î
Robertson again led the Rangers in scoring in the loss as he had 18 points. Junior Josh Williams had 11 points.
ìWe need to get more consistent in our shooting,î Gunderson said. ìEverywhere else weíre OK.î
The Rangers next game is Friday when they travel to Roseville for a 7:30 p.m. game.
