Oberstar backs Klobuchar for Senate

Congressman Jim Oberstar on Jan. 12 endorsed Amy Klobucharís bid for U.S. Senate. Oberstarís announcement marks the first Democratic Member of Congress to endorse in the U.S. Senate race. ìAmy has her roots on the Range, her grandfather worked 1500 feet underground in the mines in Ely, Minnesota, and she will put the interests of the people of this state first in Washington,î Oberstar said. ìAmy will be the next Senator from Minnesota and I am proud to stand beside her today and announce my support for her candidacy,î he said Oberstar. ìAmy will stand up for the middle-class families who struggle with the rising costs of health care, home ownership, education and energy. Right now, the priorities in Washington are wrong. The Republican leadership would rather take their marching orders from the special interests than protect the interests of the people of Minnesota.î Klobuchar said she wants Congress to take a tougher stand against large pharmaceutical companies to negotiate lower drug prices and control health care costs; stop giveaways to big oil companies so there can be greater investment in homegrown renewable energy like ethanol, biofuels and wind power; and close corporate tax loopholes such as those that allow American corporations to set up ìpaper headquartersî overseas to avoid paying U.S. taxes.
