4 land in jail in waning days of 2005

The waning days of 2005 saw four men head off to jail on charges ranging from driving under the influence to assault, Chief of Police Clark Quiring said.
The assault took place on Dec. 27 when police were called to 849 SW 7th Ave. to investigate a report of a fight with knives.
Police arrested two men at the scene. Robert Lee Gilley, 31, 556 W. Broadway Ave., was taken to jail on a charge of second-degree assault for his role in the fight with Joseph A. Marx, 21, 689 SW 12th St.
Marx was taken to jail on a charge of fifth-degree controlled substance crime after he was found with several pills believed to be a controlled substance, the chief said.
Also on Dec. 27, police were called to Wal-Mart, 200 SW 12th St. at 10:40 to investigate the theft of an eight-horse MTD snow blower. An arrest was made in the early afternoon of the same day.
Using video surveillance equipment, police identified the registered owner of a blue Chevrolet Astro van that was used to remove the $824 machine from Wal-Mart.
Around 1 p.m. officers found Daniel H. Mittelstedt, 31, at a residence on Iris Ave. N. in Forest Lake where the snow blower was found in a garage. Mittelstedt was arrested and taken to jail on a charge of felony theft.
An Anoka man spent his New Yearís Eve in jail after he was arrested at the Forest Lake Rest Area on I-35 at 2:29 p.m.
Acting on an assist to the Anoka County Sheriffís Office, police in Forest Lake located a Dodge Intrepid that had been stolen in Brooklyn Park. Police arrested Joseph Z. Livingston, 33, on charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of a stolen auto, driving after revocation and resisting process while in custody at the Forest Lake Police Department.
He was later booked at the Washington County Jail in Stillwater.

In other crimes, police here are:
ïInvestigating a forced-entry burglary at 656 SW 8th St. on Dec. 24 that resulted in theft of a skill saw, electric drill and a quantity of prescription drugs.
ïInvestigating the theft of a homemade motorcycle trailer valued at $2500 on Dec. 24. The trailer, owned by Carl Wallin, St. Croix Falls, WI, was taken from 682 N. Lake St.
