Bad things brewing for Brewers

Last week was not a good one for the Forest Lake Brewers. Maybe they can blame it on the heat as their game went sour during three losses, which dropped the team down to a 9-8 record in the Metro Minny Conference, and 12-11 overall.

The discouraging play began on Wednesday, July 12 when the Brewers dropped a home game to Blaine, 5-2. The discouraging news becomes depressing when the scoreboard shows the Brewers getting those two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Factoring in a Sunday doubleheader with Andover that resulted in 4-0 and 3-0 whitewashings, the Brew Crew has gone 23 innings without scoring a run.

In the match-up with Blaine, Forest Lake looked to be in good shape in the first inning after Kyle Eaton brought in Mark Miron and Alex Johnson for what would turn out to be the teamís only RBI of the night. After that it was tough going as the Brewers could only piece together seven hits during the entire ballgame.

Chris Parent took the loss, giving up 10 hits and striking out nine batters in nine innings of work.

In their games against Andover it wouldnít have taken much to steal a win, but apparently the offense didnít want to leave the dugout.

In the opener, Andover wasted little time in the top of the first and put up four quick runs.

Forest Lake would respond with a total of five hits over the entire seven innings, and Andover had all it needed. The final score would match the tally from the first inning and the Brewers would lose game one, 4-0.

From there the afternoon actually got worse for Forest Lake in the second game when they could only scrape together four hits.

Andover wouldnít score until the sixth and seventh innings, but that was more than enough to defeat the drought-like Brewers, 3-0.

Thirsty for some offense, Forest Lake looks to snap the 3-game losing streak on Wednesday night when St. Francis pays a visit to Schumacher Field. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
