Police in Forest Lake broke up a possible fight in the municipal parking lot and assisted Washington County with the arrest of a drunken boater.

City officers were called to the parking lot adjacent to Lakeside Memorial Park at 11:55 p.m. Sunday on a report that a large group was gathering to fight. Police were also told one of the men may have a gun.

Eight city officers and K-9 officer Matrix arrived to find some 100 people had converged in the parking lot. Chief of Police said a group of seven men from Minneapolis had planned to fight another group of Chisago County males.

The police presence and the availability of the police dog cooled the desire for a fight, the chief said.

One arrest was made. William R. Hibbler, 20, Coon Rapids, was arrested on a felony warrant from Wisconsin and ticketed for giving false name and date of birth to Forest Lake police.

No weapons were found.

Also on Sunday, city officers helped arrest a Forest Lake man wanted for boating while intoxicated. Police were called to Lakeside Park at 7:55 p.m. on a report that a man in a Yamaha Exciter had rammed two pontoons near the park dock.

The Washington County Water Patrol was called. The two police units teamed and two hours later made an arrest at a home on Third Lake.

Mark Steven Blade, 38, of 7548 North Shore Circle N., was ticketed for third-degree boating while intoxicated, careless driving, no personal flotation device, no boat lights and disorderly conduct.

He was transported to the Washington County Jail.
