City accepting quotes for water tower removal
The Forest Lake City Council is currently taking bids for the removal of the silver water tower that sits at the north end of town, near city hall. The water tower, which was built in the 1920s, has not held water for four years. At a recent city council meeting, City Administrator Chip Robinson received permission from the council to start accepting quotes to have the tower removed. Robinson estimated the cost to remove the water tower at roughly $12,000, but the cost to renovate and repaint the tower was between $50,000 and $60,000. The council is expected to approve a water tower removal quote at the next city council meeting on July 10. The city considered options of taking down the old water tower several years ago but took no action after residents of the area urged the city council to preserve the old structure.
