CSF sets records for dollar awards, number of awards
It was a record year for the Community Scholarship Foundation in Forest Lake.
Not only did the fully non-profit school district-based organization set a new standard for number of scholarships awarded, it also established a record for money awarded.
During the high schoolís Academics Awards Program on June 5, the CSF announced that 67 students will receive scholarships from a $56,000 CSF fund-raising drive in 2006.
In addition to the 67 seniors who received scholarships, 29 post graduates will also receive CSF awards this year.
In addition to general scholarship winners, The CSF will support the nomination of two seniors to receive the Presidential Freedom Program.
Alex Boerum and Casey Johnson will compete with students from across the United States. The Presidential Freedom Scholarship is given in recognition of outstanding leadership in service to their community.
Now in its 33rd year, the CSF provides college help to current Forest Lake High School graduates and other residents of the school district who are in college.
Funds raised for the scholarships come from individuals, businesses, organizations and trusts and endowments.

In addition to the general awards, the CSF presented a number of specific scholarship given on behalf of individuals, organizations and businesses in ISD 831. They are:
Maynard J. Peterson Scholarship ó Peter Hughes.
This scholarship is awarded to a student who in his post secondary plans will defend or promote an idea.
Gertrude L. Peterson Scholarship ó Robert Kirschenman.
This scholarship is awarded to a student who is planning on continuing their education in a food or nutrition related field.
The Hazelden Scholarship ó Stefanie Shogren.
The Hazelden Scholarship is awarded to a student who is planning on working in a medical/health care or human/ social service related field.
The Virgil Grove Scholarship ó Shawna McNamara.
This scholarship is awarded in memory of long time educator, Virgil Grove, and is given to a student planning to major in the education field.
The Connexus Scholarships ó Lance Charpentier, Sarah Pignato, Nathan Robertson and Heidi Schuhwerck.
These scholarships are awarded based on academic success and financial need. The families are also members of Connexus Energy.
Forest Lake Times Scholarship ó Jackie Kling.
This scholarship is given in memory of Tammi Lestrud and goes to a student who is planning on majoring in business during college.
Elsie Vogel Scholarship ó Jessica Janoski
This scholarship is given in memory of longtime journalist Elsie Vogel, and is awarded to a student whose post secondary plans include journalism.
Al Franzen Scholarship óKaryn Williams.
This scholarship was ?started in memory of longtime Forest Lake teacher Al Franzen and is given to a student who is planning to major in a world language during college.
Jack Conley Scholarship ó Chris Rupar, Krista Skoglund and Erik Stolberg.
The scholarship is awarded in memory of Jack Conley, former athletic director for many years. The award winners must be involved with high school athletics during their years at FLHS.
Forest Lake Lions Scholarship ó Beth Neu.
This scholarship is given by the Forest Lake Lions to a student who is planning on pursuing a career in education. The scholarship is given by the Lions organization in memory L.T. Lechner, George Sedlacek and Floyd Cohoes.
The Forest Lake District Administratorís Scholarship ó Ann Miron.
The scholarship honors a student who has demonstrated exemplary achievement as a high school student and is planning on furthering his or her education at a university or college.
Leo Sinna Scholarship ó Kurt Johnson and April McManus.
The scholarship is awarded to a senior who is planning on attending a college, university or trade school.
Forest Lake Principalís Scholarship is awarded to deserving students who attended these elementary schools. Students needed to apply for this specific scholarship in order to be considered.
