Police find body in Columbus swamp

A Forest Lake man was found dead early Monday morning, the apparent victim of a suicide, according to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.

Police found the body of the 22-year-old man in a heavily vegetated wetland area in Columbus Township. Anoka County authorities were alerted to the scene after the man's vehicle was found in the ditch at the intersection of Hornsby and 145th Ave.

Police were called initially shortly before 3 a.m. Monday. and the manís body was found shortly after daybreak, about 200 yards from his vehicle.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office the man drove his vehicle into a tree from southbound Hornsby. A sheriff's spokesman said the cause of death is yet to be determined but it is likely the man died from self-inflicted stab wounds from a screwdriver.

The investigation scene was south of TH-97 on the east side of I-35 in the eastern region of Columbus Township.

Forest Lake police and Washington County deputies assisted Anoka County Sheriff's Office personnel at the scene.

Other reports

Police in Forest Lake on May 30 assisted police from the Ashland County Sheriff's Office in Wisconsin with the execution of a consent search warrant at 567 NW 2nd Ave.

At the home, the Wisconsin authorities seized a home computer and software that is believed involved with an on-line dating investigation involving a juvenile female in the Wisconsin county.

Chief of Police Clark Quiring also appealed to residents to remove all valuables from vehicles at night.

Over the weekend, the chief said police received 10 reports of thefts from cars and car tamperings. No major items were stolen but cars were rifled with coins, sunglasses and one garage door opener stolen.
