Community, school honor seniors with scholarships
Members of the Forest Lake High School Class of 2006 were recipients of scholarships and honors presented by many community and school district organizations on June 5.
The awards came during the 20th annual Academic Awards Program. The following is a list of the awards, the winners and a brief explanation of the award.
Allina Forest Lake Clinic Scholarship ó Alexandra Lundeen.
This scholarship is given to a student whose post secondary plans include working in the medical field. The award is based on need and scholastic record.
John E. Allquist Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by the Stacy Lions Club ó Ally DeShong, Megan Slattery, Ashley Paul , Jessica Swenson and Stefanie Shogren.
The scholarship must be used for continuing education beyond high school at either a college or a technical college. It is based on academics, school activities, community involvement, as well as work experience demonstrating good citizenship. Allquist was very active in community organizations throughout his life.
American Legion Post 225 Past President Parley Scholarship ó Alex Boerum and Amanda Pringle.
The American Legion Auxiliary offers a scholarship to seniors who are planning to attend college or a vocational technical institution.
Birchwood Health Care Center Nursing Scholarship ó Sarah Pignato and Megan Slattery.
This scholarship goes to students pursuing a career in nursing and who have demonstrated academic and civic excellence.
Columbus Lioness Club Scholarship ó Josh Kalhagen and Beth Ann Neu.
The scholarship is awarded to deserving seniors who reside in Columbus Township. This award is based on academic performance and involvement in school and community.
Columbus Lions Club Scholarship ó Amy Borlaug and Josh Kalhagen.
The Columbus Lions Club awards scholarship is based on academic excellence, school involvement and community activities. Recipients are residents of Columbus Township.
ERA Muske Co. Community Support Scholarship ó Alex Boerum and Ann Miron.
The committee has awarded these scholarships to high school seniors who have demonstrated a high involvement in volunteerism and personal contributions to community, school, church, club or organization.
Fairview Lakes Regional Auxiliary Scholarship (Leah Hillesheim Award) ó Lindsay Caine.
The Leah Hillesheim Scholarship is awarded in honor of the former administrator of the District Memorial Hospital and is presented to a student who is pursuing a career in health care.
FFA Sandager Honorarium Agriculture Scholarship ó Ann Miron.
The Sandager Agricultural Scholarship is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated leadership in the Forest Lake FFA, community and has chosen to pursue a career in agriculture.
Forest Lake Area Athletic Association Scholarship ó

FLAAA awards scholarships based on athletic and academic achievement, as well as school and community involvement.
Forest Lake Association of Educational Officer Personnel Scholarship ó Kristin Fleischhacker.
This scholarship is available to a graduating senior who wishes to continue their education in the fields of business or education. Student academic achievement, financial need, and participation in school and community activities are considered by the selection committee.
Forest Lake Ford Scholarship ó Alex Boerum, Brianna Strunk and Ashley Ziehl.
Applicants are judged on the basis of their academic record, community leadership, and athletic accomplishments.
Forest Lake Hockey Association Scholarship ó Dustin Kendrick and Sean Tilton.
The awards recognize academic achievement, good citizenship and community involvement while participating in at least four years of hockey in the Forest Lake Hockey Association and/or the Forest Lake High School program.
Forest Lake Lions Community ó Laura Dunrud and Ashley Paul.
These scholarships are awarded to those students who exemplify the spirit of ìLionismî through their actions. This service can be through an organization or by individual efforts to help our community and/or its members.
Forest Lake Masonic Lodge 344 Scholarship ó Sam Gort and Ashley Scheiller.
This scholarship is open to seniors who plan to attend a college or technical college. Applicants are judged on citizenship, leadership, loyalty, academic promise and participation in school and community activities.
Forest Lake Rotary Club Strive Scholarship ó Courtney Wittnebel, Ian Simpson and Angela Walker.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a senior must demonstrate the greatest improvement in cumulative GPA from the end of the first semester of the junior year through the end of the third term of the senior year and be actively involved in the community. These scholarships are also part of the Community Scholarship Foundation awards.
Forest Lake Safety Camp Scholarship ó Jonathan Ihrke and Megan Slattery.
Forest Lake Safety Camp was formed in 1995 in recognition of a need for improving safety for our youth. Through the generous and ongoing support of the Forest Lake area business community, the Safety Camp Scholarship fund was founded. The scholarships are presented to students who have demonstrated extraordinary service above self, their community, state, and families, and who wish to pursue careers in areas of safety or ongoing service occupations.
Jeff Hendrickson Memorial Scholarship ó Madelynn Kohs.
The scholarship, given in memory of Jeff Hendrickson, is awarded to a senior student who is planning to attend a technical or vocational school.
Chance Holt Memorial Scholarship ó Matthew Kalsnes.
The newly created scholarship honors Chance Holt, a 2005 Forest Lake High School graduate who was tragically killed in a car accident on April 9. Chance was a very caring and giving young man who dreamt of becoming a history teacher. The first annual scholarship in his honor is being presented by Chanceís mother, Debra Holt, to Matthew Kalsnes, Chanceís good friend who miraculously survived the accident, and who shares his good friendís dream of one day working with young people.
Hugo Lions Club Scholarship ó Ann Miron.
The scholarship is based on academic record and involvement in school and community activities. The award is made to a student planning on attending college or a technical college and is a resident of Hugo.
Kluk Family Memorial Scholarship ó Amy Borlaug in the name of Andrea Jolene Kluk; Jessica Alexander in the name of Erin Jean Kluk; Pam Nora in the name of Robert John Kluk
The scholarships are awarded in memory of the Kluk children. Each is given to a student who has similar interests as did each of the Kluk children and has the best overall qualifications as determined by the scholarship review committee. Andrea was a 9th grader at Southwest Junior High at the time of her death in 2002 and would have been a member of the graduating class of 2006
Robert M. Land Memorial Scholarship ó Robert Kirschenman.
The scholarship is given by the Land family to honor their son and brother who would have been part of the 2005 graduating class of Forest Lake High School.
Lino Lakes Lioness Club Scholarship ó Katherin Yotter.
The Lino Lakes Lioness Club offers one scholarship to a graduating senior who is a resident of Lino Lakes. The scholarship may be used for educational expenses at a college or technical college.
Lino Lakes Lions Club Scholarship ó Emily Habisch.
The Lion Lakes Lions Club awards scholarships to seniors who are residents of Lino Lakes.
Linwood Helping Hand Scholarship ó Sarah Pignato.
This scholarship is awarded to a Linwood area senior who has achieved academic success and has been active in school and Linwood activities.
Sean Parenteau Memorial Scholarship ó Alex Boerum and Jillian Hansen.
The Sean Parenteau Memorial Fund is a non-profit fund for teen suicide prevention and awareness programs. This scholarship program is centered around the passion Sean had for music. These scholarships are given to a young man and woman who have demonstrated a similar passion and are signed up to continue their education, regardless of field of study.
Quad Area Chamber Scholarship ó Josh Kalhagen.
The Quad Area Chamber of Commerce is offering this scholarship to a Forest Lake Senior High School graduate to be used to further his or her education at a college or vocational technical school.
St. Peterís Alumni Scholarship ó Jake Haider and Ann Miron.
The scholarship is based on their academic achievements and growth reflecting the values instilled while attending St. Peterís Catholic Grade School.
Scandia-Marine Lions Club Scholarship ó Dustin Kendrick and Laura Dunrud.
The scholarships are awarded to deserving seniors who attended Scandia Elementary School, and reside in the
John Schumacher Scholarship ó Sam Gort.
The scholarship is awarded in memory of John Schumacher who was a teacher for 26 years and coached baseball, basketball, football, and track in the Forest Lake District. It is awarded to a senior who has demonstrated excellence as a citizen-athlete and will be furthering his/her education after graduation.
Stephen Taylor Memorial Scholarship ó Nicole Schroeder.
The scholarship is awarded to a senior who attended Lino Lakes Elementary School. It is intended to recognize students who have demonstrated academic excellence, community involvement and who aspire to defined goals through higher education. This scholarship is presented in memory of Stephen Taylor who was a student at Lino Lakes Elementary.
Wyoming Lions Club Scholarship ó Alicia Bosman and Jenna Schuder.
The Wyoming Lions Club awards scholarships for students who live in the city of Wyoming or Wyoming Township, have demonstrated community and school involvement, and have excelled in their high school studies.
Wyoming PTA Scholarship ó Angela Radtke.
This post secondary scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior who previously attended Wyoming Elementary School. It is awarded on the basis of academic excellence and community and high school involvement.
