Pott will run for county sheriff

Current Washington County Sheriff Steve Pott will seek election to continue to serve as sheriff. Pott was appointed sheriff in April 2005 with the retirement of Jim Frank. Prior to the appointment, Pott served eight years as chief deputy in the county. He has 20 plus years of experience with the Washington County Sheriffís Office and worked as a Minnesota State Trooper from 1982 to 1985. He is a graduate of the FBI National Leadership Academy in Quantico, VA. Pott, 46, is a lifelong resident of Lake Elmo. Pott and his wife, Marty, are the parents of two children. ìThese are very exciting and challenging times at the sheriffís office,î Pott said. As sheriff, Pott said he is responsible for planning three key capital improvement projects: construction and implementation of the county-wide 800 MHz radio communication system, design and implementation of a county-wide wireless data system, and design and construction of a new county communications center. He supervises a staff of 230 permanent employees and nearly 175 volunteers and part-time employees while managing an annual budget of $21 million in 2007.
