Forest Lakeís Hanson honored
Ranger named Star Tribuneís Metro Player of the Year

Over a 24-hour period last week, Jed Hanson enjoyed the exhilarating highs and dispiriting lows that come with the territory of competing in athletics.

For Hanson, though, his baseball career would not end on a sour note.

After his team was eliminated from state playoff contention on Wednesday, June 7, Hanson was informed the following day that he would be named Star Tribuneís Metro Player of the Year.

Judging by Hansonís senior year statistics, and also by what head baseball coach Brian Raabe had to say, the award makes perfect sense.

ìHe was a great, young man to work with,î Raabe said. ìHis work ethic was tremendous.î

For those who like offense, they will appreciate what Hanson did at the plate this season. In 27 games, Hanson hit for a .427 batting average, with 22 runs scored, 3 home runs, 19 RBI, and a .516 on-base percentage.

But thatís not all.

Hanson also pitched in 13 games and finished with a 9-2 record, with 2 saves. Impressive, yes, but here come the eye-popping numbers: In the 63 innings that he pitched, Hanson rang up 76 strikeouts and finished with a 1.56 ERA.

Itís no wonder Hanson has attracted lots of attention from various schools and scouts. Some like his arm, others like his hitting, while others like the entire package.

ìThey like my versatility,î Hanson shared.

At this point Hanson is undecided about where his future lies, but he hopes to find some answers after the Lions All-Star Baseball Tournament takes place later this month.
