Odegaard and Cromwell make some racquet at state tennis tournament
Although their season, and their high school tennis careers, had come to an end, there were no reasons for Forest Lakeís Luke Odegaard and Dan Cromwell to be unhappy.
On Thursday, June 8, Odegaard and Cromwell competed in the doubles bracket at the Class AA state tennis tournament, and they were able to make it to the quarterfinals before their momentum came to a halt at the hands of David Torres and Tyler Rice of Mounds View, 7-5, 6-3.
The Mounds View pair was on the short list of head coach Greg Patchinís teams that could win it all, and they eventually lost in the finals, 6-3, 6-3 to Phillip Loprinzi and Cole Patterson of Rochester Mayo.
Earlier in the day, Odegaard and Cromwell began the tournament with a closely contested, 6-4, 7-5 win over Forest Olivier and Eamon Mclain of Minneapolis South.
ìThereís probably nobody that knows more about doubles than him,î Patchin said of Odegaard before the tournament. ìHeís an excellent doubles player.î
The victory was another history making event for the Ranger teammates.
Odegaard and Cromwell were the first-ever doubles team from Forest Lake to win the section championship, and their triumph at the Northwest Athletic Club in Bloomington marked the first time Forest Lake had won a match in the state tournament.
