G.T. Midboe, former doctor in FL, dies

Dr. Gilbert T. Midboe, a family physician in Forest Lake for more than a decade and a member of the first medical staff at District Memorial Hospital here, has died.

Midboe, 85, died Thursday, June 8, 2006 in Gainesville, FL, where he had lived since 2002.

Midboe was a member of the first medical staff when the former Forest Lake hospital opened in January 1962.

Dr. Midboe came to Forest Lake in 1958 to take over the practice of Dr. N. M. Mensheha who moved to Minneapolis. Midboe teamed with Dr. James Purdie to form a family practice medical clinic. They were later joined by Dr. Carl Peikert.

The clinic eventually became Forest Lake Doctorsí Clinic. That clinic today is part of the Allina clinic network.

Midboe practiced medicine in Forest Lake until 1975 when he left the clinic here and moved to Sarasota, FL. He continued his medical career in Sarasota until 1996 when he retired.

Midboe was born in Hatton, ND and worked on his parents farm until he entered medical school. He earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical College.

He served in the United States Air Force Medical Corp from 1955 to 1957.

There was no memorial or funeral service for Dr. Midboe. Interment will be at St. Armands Key Lutheran Church Cemetery, Sarasota, at a date to be determined. Arrangements were by the National Cremation Society of Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Joan G. Midboe, Gainesville; daughters Cassandra Midboe, Barbara Schanze and Cynthia Midboe, all of Gainesville; and one son, Gilbert T. Midboe II, Wesley Chapel, FL; and one grandson.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ole J. Midboe.
