The Washington County Board of Commissioners last week approved a resolution supporting the incorporation of New Scandia Township as a city. Scandia has a population of 3970, which exceeds that of 10 cities in Washington County. It is the largest political subdivision in the county at 25,000 acres. In supporting the townshipís petition to the state of Minnesota for incorporation, the county board noted the many public services already provided by Scandia and the townshipís desire to promote its village center as a center for economic development. The hearing for incorporation of New Scandia Township is scheduled for July 19 and 20.
