Student/Athletes honored for 2006 achievements

As the 2006 school year wound down it provided the perfect opportunity to honor Forest Lake High School students with various awards.

Renee Frericks was selected for the Athena Award which is given each spring to the outstanding female athlete and scholar in participating metro area high schools.

For five years Frericks was a starter on the Ranger basketball team and ended up with more than 1000 career points while also setting the schoolís assist record. She recently competed on the Minnesota Stars AAU team which won the state championship. This fall, Frericks will head to Peoria, IL to attend and play for Bradley University.

Erik Stolberg and Shawna McNamara were given the Academic, Arts and Athletics Award (also known as the ìTriple A Awardî), which is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League. The award is for students who achieve a grade point average of at least 3.0 while also participating in a league sponsored athletic program as well as a fine arts program.

Certificates of recognition were presented to Allison Garrity and Dustin Kendrick for the United States Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award. This honor is geared towards student/athletes who display courage, poise, self-confidence and leadership.

Similarly, Allison Beebe and Ted Steiner were recognized as winners of the United States Army Distinguished Athlete Award for displaying courage, poise, self-confidence and leadership.

Jordan Kolbow was selected by Wrestling USA as an All-American, Honorable Mention. Kolbow finished his Ranger career with a record of 183-41 and a state championship in the 152 pound weight class. Kolbow will attend the University of Minnesota in the fall where he will also wrestle for the Gophers.
